THE SCIENCE OF HAIR :: HAIR PHASES

Hair phases

Hello my kinkies, this is Imelda!!! lets dive into a little science here after all biology is life!therefore bio majors rule.
There are four phases black hair goes through. they are the Anagen phase.(anaphase)
Catagen phase. (cataphase)
Telogen phase. (telophase)
Exogen phase. (exophase)

Anaphase: hair grows from the follicle which is under the skin the strand of hair gets blood and oxygen from the scalp, this allows it to grow because it is being nourished. this phase takes anywhere from 3 to 8 years on average hair leaves the anaphase after the 7th year mark for purely black girls. this determines the length of your hair.

in the bottom of the chart in red and blue, are the blood vessels nourishing the hair strand. showing the hair is in its anagen phase.

cataphase: this is the phase where the hair follicle shrinks and detaches it self from the the vessels this signifies the end of the growth. it doesn't take much time usually last about ten days.
source:google

in the diagram we can see how the bulb like end of the hair has slowly risen up and detached it self from the blood vessels.

Telophase: also known as the resting stage (when hair is subjected to extreme stress no matter how long you have been on your natural hair journey, hair can prematurely go into the telogen phase).  in this stage hair can be described as fully dead, the will be no more growth from the strand of hair in its telophase. while hair is in this stage new hair begins to grow underneath. this phase takes about three months.
source:google
the hair strand is completely detached from the vessels.

Exogen: which i like to call the exit stage. that is when hair in the telogen phase is shed.as i said earlier hair replacement has already began.

so these are the stages our hair goes through. hope this wasn't too boring for you... till we meet again my kinkies. ciao.

Products In Stock With Naturals.

Hello Ladies, I'm here to let you have an idea of some products you need always need to keep in stock.

>> SHAMPOO (SULPHATE FREE).
This is one product we can do without but it also plays a vital role throughout our healthy natural hair journey, though some helps clean leftover oils in the scalp, some also strips the scalp of all nutrients and essential oils that promote hair growth ie. the sulphate free helps build up good & healthy hair.

>> CONDITIONER.
An important multipurpose product which helps in diverse ways.
•Used for loc-methods (another way of moisturizing your hair, mixture of any oil of your choice, a good amount of conditioner & water)
•Co-washing (replacing a shampoo with a cheap conditioner to keep hair moisturized, shiny & soft)

>> SPRAY BOTTLES.
This can be used for different things, I call it an all-in-one bottle.
•For the purpose of hydrating/damping the hair with water away from dryness.
•For the purpose of mixing oils, conditioner & water to form the LOC METHOD.

>> BOBBY PINS.
This comes in different shapes according your desired hair styles but preferably it has a black round kind of plastic which covers the metal to protect the pin from getting stuck.
People barely use it because the comparison of the pin getting hold of thick hair will be an arduous task but yes it works.🙌

>> SATIN BONNET.
This is night protective kind of scarf which comes in different colors & sizes preventing the dripping of water and oil on your pillow.
It serves us with many processes of maintaining hair during your sleep time. ie.Green House Effect & Loc Method. It takes the fullness of your head no matter the hairstyle you have on, preventing it from getting spoiled.

>> HAIR REPAIR OIL (ORS), HEAT PROTECTOR & LEAVE-IN.

As much we want our hair long, there are things that are taken for granted because those are the little things that keep our hair healthy, shiny, soft & beautiful.
NB. The little thing that can also damage our hair preventing it from growing (heat, brittle hair etc)
•Products like SHEABUTTER which has an enormous benefit on Africans, can be used as a heat protector, hair moisturizer, an agent to hair growth and many others.
Source: Google.
•Essential Oils which contains grape seed oil & sweet almond oil generates good & fresh smell to the hair, moisturizing it and mostly keeping it shiny and generally gives the scalp new & amazing growth when used as an hot oil treatment and restores damaged hair.

• Leave-in Conditioner, This is simply a get away from dryness of your hair after washing.
This is one of the most used leave-in recommended by all hairlistas because of its great work and the magic it works on every kind of hair..

  • Who exactly is Imelda?
Imelda is a sexy gerr, who is the life of a party. she is 20. GHANAIAN! Living in Philly. I am a Biology major at Temple University

  • Why did you start your hair journey?
I was sitting in my mum's car when this girl crossed the road, she had amazing natural hair. I FELL IN LOVE. :)

  • Do you plan to relax later in life?
I will relax after 7  years, because my hair will leave it's anagen phase. and enter the exogen stage. that's when the hair stops receiving blood and breakages occur. So that is when i have decided to relax my hair rock it for a while then natural again.

NEXT AND FINALLY .... DORCEY (DORCAS)...(her personal answers)
Source : Dorcas Grant

  •  Who exactly is Dorcey?
Dorcey is a young lady with beautiful God-given natural African kinky hair fully named as Dorcas Grant. I am Ghanaian from the Central part of the country, a Christian (Pentecostal to be precise).

Source : Dorcas Grant
  • Why did you start your hair journey?
I started my hair journey because most hair specialists don't have the time to take care of natural hair since they don't have the idea on how to treat it.
After having the opportunity to embrace my thick natural hair and watching vloggers on YouTube from all parts of the globe who take charge of their own hair without the help of others, I got the knowledge about how to maintain & grow my hair.

  • Do you plan to relax later in life?
No, I don't have plans on ever relaxing my hair because I'm so loving my kinky hairߘ͊

    Source : Dorcas Grant
  • Are your families and friends on board with this decision?
Since I got my sister and friend to BIG CHOP, they're so much on board with me growing thick hair.

  • Ever had a bad hair moment or era?
My bad hair moment was with a specialist who was willing to relax my hair because she felt too much thickness in her hand which took a lot of her time.
Also, I had a weave with an invincible style (with hair glue) to cover some part of my hair; the difficulty of getting the glue off my hair was a serious blow to me & the fear of going to a salon made me cut the front of my hair which became shorter..
It's all grown now,YAAAAAAAAY.
Source : Dorcas Grant

  • Any advice to naturalistas out there?
My advice to all everyone & not to just naturalistas is HAVE PATIENCE.
Hair grows when you apply the best method, maintain & love your hair.
