WASHED......NOW WHAT? PART I

So you just washed your hair ....deep conditioned....moisturized....what next?

Finding an almost perfect hairstyle for day to day activities becomes so frustrating especially with short natural hair. I go through the pain :(

Let's take a look at very common hairstyles. It might not have a detailed description here but promise to give tutorials also in later posts enjoy :)

1. THE PUFF

EVEN TWAs can rock a puff.
MODEL: STEPHANIE

So technically a puff is pulling all the hair back. not too tight to give it the soft cotton ball look :)

2. TWISTS / TWIST OUTS

MODEL : MIRANAYA

so this is a basic two-strand twist.... take a small section of your hair.... divide that section into two parts to have the feel of two strands or ropes. Now cross them over or should say wrap then over each other all the way down to the tip.

In the middle of the week you are tired of the same look.. you don't have to try a whole new style just carefully unravel the twists. YOU HAVE AN AWESOME TWIST OUT WHICH CAN BE STYLED IN VARIOUS WAYS. :)

HERE SHE PULLS THE TWIST OUT INTO A CUTE PUFF BY COMBING/BRUSHING THE BODY AND LEAVING THE TIPS.:)

HERE THE TWIST OUT BEHIND IS COMPLETELY COMBED THROUGH LEAVING THE SIDE CORN ROWS (IT COULD BE FLAT TWISTS) AND FRONT TWIST OUTS :)

WASH DAY!! :::: DREAM-COME-TRUE OR NIGHTMARE :)

Hi Miranaya here...... here to talk about the naturalistas wash day. I personally haven't met anyone who views wash day as dream come true. The effort and time alone jeez!

WHAT PREPARATION GOES INTO WASH DAY?

 PRODUCTS AND TOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(HAHAHA TOOLS)
Source : Personal Albums
  • Combs! WIDE-TOOTH, AFRO anything ouchless i guess
This is definitely to make detangling easy.... I guess it qualifies as a tool then :)

source : Google
  • Towel or T-shirt (your choice)
Dab off the extra water :)

  • Detanglers - The name says it all right? Aids in the detangling process to make the hair more manageable:)

NB: OLIVE OIL AND CONDITIONER CAN BE USED AS DETANGLERS YOU DON'T NEED A STORE-BOUGHT ONE.

  • Leave-in Conditioner
    Source : Personal Albums
Conditioner is every naturalistas bestfriend (at least thats what i have heard). So after washing all the conditioner out this still adds moisture and strength.

Source : Google
  • Plastic cap or shower cap
Well this helps the conditioner get absorbed into the hair cuticles by opening up pores.

  • Clips
Helps hold the hair in sections.

  • Heat Protectant (OPTIONAL)

Yupppppppp! Shea butter can be used as a heat protectant. This step is necessary for people who apply heat to dry.

  •  Shampoo and Conditioner!

SULPHATE-FREE SHAMPOO IS ADVISED. I USE NORMAL SHAMPOO THOUGH SOMETIMES.

THE BATTLE!
  1. DETANGLE
  2. PART HAIR INTO SECTIONS
  3. WASH HAIR IN SECTIONS ....APPLY CONDITIONER AFTER EACH WASH (hair is sectioned again)
  4. PLACE PLASTIC CAP OR SHOWER CAP OVER YOUR HEAD FOR A FEW MINUTES...DEEP CONDITION
  5. WASH HAIR
  6. TOWEL DRY OR TSHIRT DRY (HEHEHE)
  7. APPLY YOUR LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER
  8. STYLE AS DESIRED
OR

   7.  APPLY YOUR HEAT PROTECTANT
   8.  BLOW DRY AND STYLE AS DESIRED.

VOILA!

KEEPING YOUR TWIST OUTS FOR A WEEK!!!

hello my kinkies Imelda here! we all know how difficult it is to twist our hair every night to get those curls. especially kinkies with tight schedules school, work and so on. I personally put my twist in on Sunday and rock the same twist out till Friday (wash day).

below are the tools you'll need for maintaining and styling your twist out.

to first rock an amazing twist out your twist must be on point. curl enhancers can be used to achieve those tight curl and coils you want. personally i like to use Shea moisture.

I put my twist in on Sunday in the evening.

unravel my twist on Monday.

day 1 twist out

maintaining your twist out is very easy contrary to what you may think. the most important tool for me would be my satin bonnet or satin scarf
source:personal albums
the bonnet keeps my pillows from taking out all the moisture i put in. allowing me to go three days without moisturizing my hair!

after school i get home and put on my bonnet, i don't touch my hair. the next morning i take it off before taking a shower, so the steam from the water will fluff up my hair. when i get out i don't need a comb, i just hold by hair by its shaft and gently pull to give it some extra volume and abracadabra!

day 2 twist out
day 3 repeat every thing from day 2

day 3 twist out

on day 3 my hair would feel a little crunchy and in need of some moisture. i have perfected a "serum" which i call moisture blast lool!

my spray bottle. my magic elixir lol! in my spray bottle i have: water(of course), suave conditioner, kinky curly knot today leave in, extra virgin olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, rosemary leaf oil, avocado oil. you definitely don't have to have all these oils but I'm a little crazy so yeah!
source:personal album

i spritz this on my hair and gently massage, dont spritz too much as your twist may lose their definition and go all fuzzy, just enough to feel moist not dripping wet. I normally style it after this to mix up my look.

day 4 twist out styled into a fro hawk.

day 5 my final day of rocking my twist out and wash day*crying* i do as i do on day 2 let steam do most of my work then style as i please

day 5 twist out styled to one side

hope you learnt something from this! I was very happy when i found out i don't necessarily have to twist every night! you don't have to either. till we meet again my kinkies...frelios. ; )
