Wig making 101
Hello! its definitely been eons since we spoke. School is out, the weather is perfect! lets go on a road trip maybe! Miami? some island somewhere....... ok ok enough banter lets get down to business. So for the past three months I have styled my own protective styles one for each month. Crochet braids(very easy), faux locs(fairly easy), and pixie braids(a little bit on the hard side, especially since i cannot take my head of my neck to braid the back). and yes I was very tired. I looked for an easier way to protect my hair and decided to get wigs....the prices on some of those pieces though! my heart literally sank.
So naturally being the science minded person I am(hehe) I wanted to know how wigs were made first of all, I ran to YouTube and watched wig making vids the whole day. The next day I was on amazon ordering wig making supplies. lets fast forward to the meat of this topic.

got all these? You are officially in business!
The Process
Attach your clamp on your working table, insert your styrofoam head(or whatever head you got) on the stand/clamp. put your wig cap on your styrofoam head and hold it down with push pins, preferably on the sides as well as front to back (now you may have a pouch at the top of your cap, measure on your head first, if you need that pouch or not, If you do not need it crochet right through it.)
1.I used four packs of the butterfly brand of Marley hair in colour one. I would advise to prep your hair before you start crocheting it. to prepare your hair first use some leave in conditioner to soften it(some people would actually want to co wash the hair before, its all up to you) get a comb closer to wide tooth, start from the tips of your hair and comb in short, sharp burst moving an inch up till the hair is fluffed up.
2. You should start from the back of your cap, open the latch on your latch hook, turn your latch hook, so the loop is turned away from you, and use it to grab at least two to four lines of the cap, make sure to push the latch all the way through. Hold, smooth and compact the hair at the center so it will fit in the latch, once it fits close the latch and pull the hair through. Pull enough, that there will be a loop you can pass two fingers through to grab the piece of hair that did not make it through the cap and pull through the loop you created. pull till it becomes a tiny knot(do not pull taut, you might break your cap, easy does it)
from here on out, use your own discretion to space out your hair pieces. (do not pack too tightly and do not space out too much, also do not waste too much time or hair behind the cap, the hair on top will fall over it anyway)
3.Hey you are so not done, time to use your perm rods.

I used bigger rods for the front, because I wanted it to have a wavy look at the fringe. smaller rods behind for a tighter coil look
4. Immerse you crochet wig into hot water let it sit for about five minutes, drain take out and let it dry it may take hours if you are air drying for faster results use a blow dryer.
5. the take down, now its dry take your rods out, there is really no specific way to take them out, do what works best for the curls you want.
6. try on your wig cap, at this moment you'll be thinking what monstrosity have I created.

do not worry grab you trusty pair of scissors, and get to work shaping your wig, how you envisioned it! fluff out your curls first, also while trimming, do not pull and trim, grab and trim.

do not forget to leave a little of your hair out, so you can blend blend blend
